Help and support
Whose Face helps you find the name of a public figure you saw in a film, a video or an interview: take a photo or choose an image, and the app suggests a name with a confidence score.
How does it work?
- Tap Take a photo or Choose an image.
- Before the first analysis, read how the photo is sent and give your agreement.
- The app prepares the photo on your device (resizing, removal of metadata such as location), then sends it to the Amazon Rekognition service of Amazon Web Services, in Ireland.
- The suggested name and the confidence score are displayed. Tap the house to go back to the home screen.
The analysis does not run on your phone: an internet connection is required. Mobiverse Games keeps neither your photos nor your results. Details in the privacy policy.
Tips for better results
- Choose a sharp, well-lit image where the face is visible from the front.
- Move closer or crop if the face is small in the photo.
- Avoid reflections, sunglasses and partly hidden faces.
- A screenshot from a film or video often works very well.
Frequently asked questions
Why is no name shown?
“No face detected” means the service found no usable face. “No celebrity recognized” means a face was found but does not match any public figure known to the service. Whose Face only recognizes public figures and cannot identify private individuals.
The suggested name is wrong
Recognition relies on an artificial intelligence system and is not infallible. A low score is shown as “Uncertain match” and the name is preceded by “Possibly”. Try another, sharper or larger photo.
What does the confidence score mean?
It is an estimate provided by the recognition service, not a guaranteed likeness percentage.
There are several people in the photo
A numbered frame surrounds each face. Tap a frame, or use the arrows below the name, to see the result for each face.
A message says there are too many analyses
To prevent abuse, the number of analyses per minute is limited. Wait a few seconds and try again.
Do I need an account? Will I get notifications?
No. The app requires no account and sends no notifications.
Permissions
iPhone and iPad
- Camera: Settings › Whose Face › Camera.
- Choosing an image does not require access to your whole photo library: Apple’s picker only shares the image you choose.
- Ad tracking: Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
Android
- Camera: Settings › Apps › Whose Face › Permissions (labels may vary by manufacturer).
- Choosing an image uses the Android photo picker: no storage permission is requested.
If you denied camera access, the app offers to open the settings. You can always choose an existing image.
Advertising and privacy
The app is free and shows a Google AdMob banner ad. Your advertising choices are requested on first launch and can be changed at any time: tap the ⓘ button at the top of the home screen, then Ad preferences. Refusing personalised ads does not prevent you from using the app.
On the same screen, Sending photos to AWS › Withdraw permission cancels your upload permission: you will be asked again before the next analysis.
Minimum age
Whose Face is intended for people aged 16 and over.
